vain

Vain

I am not vain

I know who I am

There’s nothing I want to take

And nothing I care to hide

Shiny things cannot tempt me

Nor can anyone make me afraid

You cannot make me fall

for you don’t know where I am standing

Sit, and try to understand me for one moment

Maybe your blind eyes will be opened

I walk, and the world I love

flows to me and says hello

It delivers a glass of wine to one hand

and a cup of unconditional love in the other

What can I do but hold it

And see the beautiful eyes it belongs to?

I stare, observing, amazed,

Perplexed at the possibility

And you have called me vain

Without even knowing what it means!

But it’s not my own beauty I’m in love with,

but yours and the light that shines in your eyes
